Residential detox is available at Focus12 through our Consultant Psychiatrist who will assess and then prescribe an appropriate detoxification programme. This will be dependent upon the level of use that a client presents with on admission. Clients who are accessing our services on a residential basis will be monitored throughout the day by the staff team. They are supported at night within the residential unit by visits from staff, telephone monitoring at all times and through peer support.
It is very important that clients understand that 'detox' and 'withdrawal' are completely different things. 'Withdrawal', 'cold turkey','clucking', 'DTs' are all things that occur when clients are suddenly unable to use alcohol or their drug of choice. This will usually result in some unpleasant side affects and physical reactions. Many clients may have experienced these uncomfortable symptoms from time to time during their using.
Detox is completely different. At Focus12 new clients are assessed and then prescribed a suitable detox regime. This will begin before withdrawal has started to happen and will immediately stabilise the client's mood and physical comfort. Over an agreed period of time the chemical subsitute will be slowly reduced until abstinence is reached. This process will be monitored at all times and should result in little discomfort to the client.
